The Regiment's legacy is marked by the recognition of its exceptional service and the enduring impact on the Canadian military's heritage.
The Regiment earned numerous Battle Honors during its service in both World Wars, including those from campaigns in Sicily, Italy, and Northwest Europe. This is a testament to their bravery and dedication in some of the most challenging theaters of war, and it underscores their significant contributions to Canada's military history.
The Regiment’s nicknames are
“The Hasty P’s” & “The Plough Jockeys”
Military units often adopt nicknames and insignia that reflect their local culture or history. Plough Jockey was playfully coined due to the agricultural roots in the region of the Regiment’s origins and the people who work on the farms, often referred to as "ploughmen”, many of whom became active participants in wartime service.
Through the Regiment’s rich history of over 100 years of active service, countless traditions & customs have arisen. These unique hallmarks helped to make the Regiment a bonded community through the ages, connecting decades of soldiers together through a shared lineage & tradition.
One of the most notable Hasty P members was renowned Canadian author, Farley Mowat, who served from 1940-1945.

The Regimental headquarters and one company (A Company, Assoro Company) are located in the Belleville Armoury and in the Cobourg Armoury, while the Peterborough Armoury houses what was traditionally B Company or Moro Company. Moro Company also serves as the headquarters for the Regiment’s Assault Pioneer Platoon. Normally, the Regiment deploys as a composite, Ortona Company, while the headquarters and administration form Somme Company. The Regiment is also affiliated with a number of local area Cadet Corps to continue supporting the tradition of youth involvement in the Canadian Reserves.
